Freak Translator (Fancy & Weird Text Generator)

This fancy text generator turns your words into bold, italic, script, gothic (Fraktur), outline and other Unicode styles that you can copy and paste into bios, messages and documents.

How to use the fancy text generator

  1. Type your text. Every style updates as you type.
  2. Scroll the list to compare bold, italic, script, gothic (Fraktur), outline, monospace, bubble and other styles.
  3. Press Copy next to the one you like and paste it into a bio, a username, a message or a document.
  4. Tick the extra box for strike-through, underline and upside-down text.

How it works: Unicode characters, not fonts

You cannot send a font through an Instagram bio or a WhatsApp message. What this tool does instead is swap each letter for a different Unicode character that looks like a styled version of it. Unicode, the standard that defines every character on your phone and computer, includes a block called Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (U+1D400 to U+1D7FF). Mathematicians use these characters to tell variables apart, because in formulas a bold x and an italic x can mean different things. Each style is a full A–Z alphabet of separate characters.

A few letters were already in Unicode before that block existed, so the block has gaps where they would be. The tool fills them with the older characters from the Letterlike Symbols block:

  • Script: ℬ ℰ ℱ ℋ ℐ ℒ ℳ ℛ ℯ ℊ ℴ
  • Fraktur: ℭ ℌ ℑ ℜ ℨ
  • Double-struck: ℂ ℍ ℕ ℙ ℚ ℝ ℤ
  • Italic h: ℎ (the Planck constant symbol)

Other styles use different blocks: circled letters (Ⓐ), squared letters (🄰), full-width forms (A) originally made for East Asian typesetting, and the small capital letters used in phonetics (ᴀ ʙ ᴄ). Strike-through and underline add a combining mark after each character (U+0336 and U+0332).

H → 𝐇 (U+1D407, MATHEMATICAL BOLD CAPITAL H)

Examples

Social media bios

“Ancient scripts” in bold sans-serif becomes 𝗔𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝘀, which stands out in a plain-text bio. Keep it to a few words. A whole paragraph is hard to read.

Headings in plain-text places

Some forums, comment boxes and messaging apps strip formatting. 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 or 𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤 characters survive because they are characters, not formatting.

A medieval look

Fraktur gives a blackletter style: “Rune” becomes ℜ𝔲𝔫𝔢. It pairs well with our Runic Translator if you want something with a Norse feel.

Accessibility and search: use with care

Screen readers do not treat these characters as normal letters. Depending on the device, 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨 may be read as “mathematical bold capital H, mathematical bold small e…” or skipped entirely. People who are blind or have low vision may not be able to read your text at all. Search engines and app search boxes usually do not match them to normal words either, so people may not find your name. Good practice:

  • Use styled text for decoration, never for important information such as contact details or prices.
  • Keep your real name or key words in plain text next to any styled version.
  • Avoid styled text in usernames you want people to search for.

Some older devices lack fonts for the newer characters and show boxes instead. If a style looks broken on your screen, choose another.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real fonts?

No. They are separate Unicode characters that look like styled letters, so they keep their look when you paste them into apps that do not allow fonts.

Will the text work on Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp?

Usually, yes, because those apps support Unicode. Very old phones may show empty boxes for some styles.

Is fancy text bad for accessibility?

It can be. Screen readers may read each character as a maths symbol or skip it. Keep important information in normal text.

Why are some letters a slightly different style?

A few letters, such as script B and Fraktur C, were in Unicode before the full styled alphabets, so the tool uses those older characters to fill the gaps.
